Description
This is a clear, antique Sauer's Extract bottle that is embossed on both sides, "Sauer's Extracts" and bottom with numbers, possible a 6 and a 9. The bottle likely dates between the early 1900s and the 1920s. The vintage bottle is in wonderful condition, free of breaks or cracks although the bottom is a little rough. Clarity is good but there are sediment deposits from long term exposure as well as a few bubbles. My father, an avid bottle digger, discovered the bottle in the remains of an old southern plantation in Virginia more than 40 years ago. The bottle measures 6.25" tall x 2" wide x 1" in depth.Conrad Sauer, a pharmacist, developed Sauer's flavored extracts during the 1880s in Richmond, VA. Popularity of the product line ensured its rapid expansion and establishment of the American Glass Works to bottle the products. This bottle does not appear to have the typical AGW marking on the bottom. (The bottom markings are difficult to make out.)
