With the advent of Rotary Couplers and Revolving Dumping these cars, today, remain a staple for hauling super-large quantities of coal to electric plants and other coal-burning facilities. They are exemplary of the last 60 years for the coal industry!
CSX Transportation , one of our four primary National rail lines, serves 23 States in the Eastern USA and the Canadian Provinces of Ontario and Quebec with over 70 ocean, river and lake port terminals along the Atlantic and Gulf Coasts, the Mississippi R., the Great Lakes and the St. Lawrence Seaway. It's slogan is "How Tomorrow Moves," and it's name comes from the merger of the "C" Chessie and "S" Seaboard Rail Systems, with the "X" connoting "Consolidated." CSX have it's own identity and purchasing and painting of equipment could begin. In 1998, permission was granted to split-up the assets of CONRAIL (a government-owned corporation formed from the ailing NYC and PRR railroads) between CSX and Norfolk Southern railroads.
