In China, ginger tea, made by boiling fresh ginger in water, has long been prescribed for colds, coughs, flu and hangovers. In Japanese animal studies conducted at the Tsumura Research Institute for Pharmacology, and reported in 1984, ginger exhibited an "intense antitussive cough-suppressing effect," even when it was compared with codeine. It also lowered fever and reduced pain.
Finally, ginger appears to have direct effects on the heart. Research at Tsumura indicates that it decreases the heart rate. Other Japanese researchers find that ginger also increases the force of contractions in the upper (atrial) chamber of the heart. Digitalis, the heart drug, has similar effects.
Origin and History:
Ginger originated from an island in Southeast Asia. It is a true cultigen and does not exist in its wild state. The most ancient evidence of its domestication is among the Austronesian peoples where it was among several species of ginger cultivated and exploited since ancient times.

How to Use:
Ginger Tea - Ginger Tea Ginger tea is easy to make. Measure 1/4 teaspoon of ground ginger into a heat proof mug or glass and pour 1 cup of boiling water over it. Cover with a saucer and let sit until cool enough to drink. Strain before drinking. Add a splash of milk and honey or maple syrup, to taste (You can also add 1/4 teaspoon of Turmeric to the ginger before steeping for even more health benefits).
