Historical note
The ferried “Shasta”, “Yosemite” and “San Mateo” were laid down at the shipyard “Bethlehem Steel Company” for “Six Minute Ferry Company” in 1922. The Southern Pacific Railroad bought out the ferries and let them work across San-Francisco Bay, where they worked till 1939. In 1947 “San Mateo” started to work at the route Seattle-Suquamish-Illahee. In 1948 it worked for three months at the route Kingston-Edmonds, and then it was placed on inactive status. In the 1950s it worked at the route Fauntleroy-Vashon-Harper, Bremerton route, Kingston-Edmonds, Edmonds-Seattle-Winslow. “San Mateo” made its last voyage from Edmonds to Kingston at the Labour Day in 1969.
