    Ritual Element Jar
Includes 1 jar of Whole Mint Leaves 0.1 oz (2g)
    Scientific Classification:
    Mentha
    Folklore:
The genus name Mentha comes from Minthe, a nymph in Greek mythology:
Long ago Hades (the god of the underworld) was having an affair with the nymph, Minthe. It is said that Minthe bragged to other nymphs that Hades desired her more than he did his own wife, Persephone. When Persephone heard of this she was enraged, turning her husbands lover into a plant to live on earth and be trampled upon. Hades could not undo the spell, but he made her into a sweet-smelling plant that when tread upon, she would fill the area with a wonderful fragrance. To this day, mint grows on earth and continues searching for her love, Hades, and mates with every plant that she is able.

    Medical Benefits:
Mint facilitates smoother digestion, therefore making it useful for a variety of stomach related ailments. Mint's anti-inflammatory properties soothe swelling and keep mucus at bay. Mint has umpteen antiviral and antibacterial properties that can keep away mild flu and cold. Mint may also help cure a headache.
Some find mint tea useful for upset stomach and indigestion while others find it causes heartburn, increasing their discomfort. However, the scent of mint can be soothing when you’re nauseated, even if ingesting it is unhelpful. Mint tea is also used for lower abdominal issues, particularly for temporarily relief of symptoms related to irritable bowel syndrome. The scent of mint is also helpful for headaches, especially where nausea is also present. It is also good for relieving nasal congestion and opening up airways. Mint contains active compounds that create a warming-cooling sensation on the skin. This can be added to salves and massage oils for soothing aching muscles and joints and arthritic conditions and for chest rubs to soothe coughs and congestion. A peppermint foot bath is soothing for aching feet and it has anti-fungal properties, not to mention it makes them smell better. Mint is a popular flavor and fragrance additive to oral care products including toothpastes and mouthwashes to sweeten the breath. In addition to its breath-freshening fragrance mint has some anti-bacterial properties that may inhibit bacteria that cause bad breath.
    Origin and History:
The Greeks and Romans made great use of mint as mentioned by Pliny the Elder (Roman Author). They added it to both bathwater and perfumes, and also used it in sauces and wines. The Romans stewed mint during banquets as a scented adornment for their tables and a warm welcome to their guests; they even crowned themselves with garlands of mint.
Romans used it as an aid to digestion and as a mouth freshener.
There is evidence of mint cultivation by the Egyptians, and it is mentioned in 13th-century Icelandic pharmacopeias. However it did not come into general medical use until the 18th-century in England. Mint was a popular medieval flavoring for whiskey in Scotland.
In Ancient Athens, where it was common to scent different parts of the body with different herbs, mint was the scent most commonly used on the arms. Mint history has it being introduced to England by the Romans and is mentioned by John Gardiner before 1440 as ‘myntys’. John Gardiner may have been a pseudonym and little is known about him. He published Feate of Gardening in 1440 but it may have been written much earlier. Feate is perhaps the earliest horticultural work in the English language and was written in verse. In the 14th Century we found early versions of toothpaste. It was used during that time for whitening teeth.
    How to Use:
With Mint the possibilities are endless, it adds a bright flavor and scent to just about anything from food and drinks to cleaning and self care.
Add Mint to Greek Yogurt with Berries or a simple Mint Tea is great for aiding in digestion. Change up your Smoothie by adding a couple of leaves. Great mixed with sparkling water or club sode; try adding Strawberry, Lime or Basil. Or just add to water for ice cubes that lend great flavor to any beverage.
Mint can also be added directly to your bath. Try it withsome epsom salt and a body oil for an all over pick me up.
